Skyborne presents its modular CHAmber Operated Shotgun (CHAOS) payload for UxV platforms

CHAOS is a 10-shot, 12 gauge (GA) shotgun UxV weapon payload system that was initially designed for Skyborne’s flagship product - the Cerberus Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), as part of a three-month contract awarded by the UK Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) for an Unmanned Air Systems in Urban Environments competition.

The CHAOS 12GA payload system design leverages design concepts of the Skyborne's existing HAVOC 40mm Launcher, which was developed under an Australian Centre of Defence, Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority grant.

Specifications

Dimensions (LxWxH): 477mm x 113mm x 128mm

Weight (with LRF mounted, without ammunition): 2.48 kg

Ammunition: Standard 12 gauge (up to 3”)

Barrel bore: Can be rifled or smooth

Accessory Mounting: Via picatinny rail, mounted under barrel

Firing the chaos

Equipped with a servo operated round chamber, CHAOS allows the operator to select the optimal round for each scenario (e.g. lethal vs non-lethal rounds), with firing speeds of up to 70 rounds per minute. Future development will see CHAOS achieving 120 rounds per minute.

Skyborne CEO and Co-Founder, Dr. Michael Creagh states:

“Skyborne aims to deliver effects at all ranges. In responding the to the call from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), we have rapidly developed the CHAOS for close quarters effects. The systems can be loaded with many user-selectable round types, including door breeching, non-lethal and counter-UAS.”

Skyborne CBO and CO-Founder, Mr. Adrian Dudok states:

The CHOAS 12GA leverages off the HAVOC Launcher 5-shot 40mm weapon system developed and manufactured in house. The CHAOS was designed, assembled and tested within 3 months for a UK MoD contract, a fantastic achievement by the company.

This demonstrates our ability to go from a design to a working prototype within a matter of months. The CHAOS expands our UxV weapon system range, of weapons which can be integrated to Skyborne's man-packable weaponised UAV, as well as other UAV and UGV platforms which require a remote weapon system.”

CHAOS payload as mounted on the Cerberus

The initial design iteration of CHAOS was hard bolted to the Cerberus MI, and Skyborne has since modified CHAOS into a standalone UxV weapon system, which can be switched in and out of Cerberus, and on to other unmanned aerial/ground vehicles.
